Gochang-gun Accelerates Development of Premium Hanwoo through Improvement and Quality Enhancement

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, is stepping up efforts this year to foster premium Hanwoo cattle through genetic improvement and quality enhancement.

On the 25th, the county announced that it will invest 730 million KRW in 13 projects aimed at producing high-quality meat through Hanwoo genetic improvement and quality enhancement.

The county has been consistently supporting the basics of Hanwoo improvement, including providing high-quality semen, embryo transfer, registration, and linear evaluation.

As a result, the rate of premium meat appearance in Gochang Hanwoo has steadily improved from 68% in 2016 to 77.7% last year, greatly contributing to the pride and income increase of local Hanwoo farmers.

Additionally, efforts are being made to improve female cattle genetics through projects such as the female cattle genetic trait improvement project and female cattle herd formation project, shifting from a bull-centered improvement system to preserving and inheriting excellent bloodlines.

To improve the management environment of Hanwoo farms facing aging and labor shortages, support is also provided for automatic mixed feed dispensers and Hanwoo helper support projects.

Park Dong-yeol, head of the county's Livestock Promotion Team, said, "In unstable conditions such as rising feed costs due to overseas situations, exceeding the appropriate number of Hanwoo cattle, and the abolition of import tariffs, producing high-quality meat through Hanwoo genetic improvement and quality enhancement is the only way to maintain and develop Hanwoo farms and the industry."

He added, "We will strengthen administrative support to solidify our position as a premium Hanwoo production area and secure competitiveness."
