Kang Yong-seok "Decision Made on Unification with Kim Eun-hye... Both Major Party Candidates Lack Substance"
Kang, Scheduled Morning Interview Time Also Delayed
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Independent candidate Kang Yong-seok for Gyeonggi Province governor drew a line on unification with People Power Party candidate Kim Eun-hye on the 25th.
On the day, Kang appeared on BBS Radio and said, "There is almost no more hesitation," adding, "Because they (Kim's side) are not just passive but outright rejecting unification, from our side, there is nothing more to discuss."
He continued, "Rather than any contact with (candidate Kim), we clearly stated the conditions for unification from the beginning, but there was no acceptance or any attitude toward those conditions."
In response to the host's question about his unusual support as an independent candidate, he said, "It feels like the two major party candidates are less competitive, perhaps underqualified compared to previous candidates for Gyeonggi governor," and pointed out, "As was criticized in the debate, both have critical flaws, so even if elected, it is questionable whether they can maintain their position."
He also stated that he has no plans to rejoin the People Power Party after this local election. Kang said, "At present, I have no such intention," and added, "After the election, I will observe various political situations and decide my future political course accordingly."
Regarding the phone call with President Yoon Seok-yeol, he said, "No comment."
