On the 25th, the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced that it was selected for the "Connected Car Wireless Communication Technology Certification and Evaluation System Construction Project" in a public contest hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for establishing an industrial innovation foundation.
This project primarily involves verifying wireless communication performance, developing certification and evaluation technology for electronic components connected to wireless communication (products powered by electricity), and developing service applications, which are core technologies of connected car services.
The system will be established at the Connected Car Materials and Components Certification and Evaluation Center, scheduled to open in 2024 in Robot Land, Cheongna International City, with a total floor area of 4,110㎡ across three floors. The project budget totals 14.8 billion KRW, funded by national and city government sources.
With this selection, the Incheon Free Economic Zone is expected to become a key global hub for connected car technology, a global trend, while securing domestic technology related to vehicle communication, fostering growth in Korea's new industries.
In particular, by establishing equipment related to connected car technology, comprehensive support across the entire development cycle?from design, verification, certification to demonstration?will be possible, playing a significant role in enabling domestic companies to secure technological leadership.
Connected cars are future-oriented vehicles equipped with advanced information and communication technology (ICT) that enable two-way wireless communication. They can communicate with other vehicles and all objects, providing drivers with various information such as safe driving data.
