The Paju Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 25th that they have apprehended and are investigating Mr. A (50) on charges of hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. A is accused of driving under the influence around 10:40 p.m. the previous day on a road in Tanhyeon-myeon, Paju City, hitting Mr. B, a man in his 30s who was sitting on the road, and fleeing the scene. Mr. B was taken to the hospital but passed away.
It was investigated that after causing the accident, Mr. A got out of the car to check the situation and then ran away.
The police, who responded following reports from citizens who witnessed the scene, searched the area around the accident site, found Mr. A’s vehicle, and urgently arrested him at his company dormitory.
At the time of arrest, Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.101%, a level that warrants license cancellation.
