On the 24th, the Namhae Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that they had detained Mr. A (37) on charges of killing a direct ascendant and were investigating him.
Mr. A is suspected of killing his mother, Ms. B (61), on the stairs inside a three-story building owned by his parents located in Namhae-eup, Namhae-gun, on the 19th.
At around 6:30 a.m. on the 20th, the following day, Mr. A called 119, reporting that "my mother is collapsed on the stairs, bleeding." Initially, the police investigated based on the report, assuming that Ms. B had slipped and fallen on the stairs.
However, after noticing suspicious circumstances from the wounds on Ms. B, the police reviewed CCTV footage around the accident site and found blood on Mr. A’s clothes and shoes. Subsequently, considering inconsistencies in his alibi, the police identified Mr. A as the prime suspect and urgently arrested him.
