Goheung-gun Community Security Council Receives Great Response for Housing Environment Improvement
Volunteering to Help Neighbors in Welfare Blind Spots
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] The Community Social Security Council of Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Chairman Kim Yeon-sook, hereinafter referred to as the ‘Gun Council’), which is operated by the county, has been providing substantial administrative and financial support to neighbors in difficult situations within the welfare blind spots in the area.
The Gun Council is composed of local residents who are well aware of the local conditions, and in cooperation with the Community Chest of Korea, it directly provides customized services and seeks joint support measures by establishing an organic cooperation system with the county.
So far, in collaboration with the county office’s Dream Start team and case management team, they have identified four households with poor housing conditions in Geumsan-myeon, Dohwa-myeon, Jeomam-myeon, and Daeseo-myeon.
At the end of last year, they received a donation of 20 million KRW from Korea Aerospace Industries Co., Ltd., located in Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam, and carried out projects such as old roof improvement, water supply installation, youth study room installation, wallpaper and flooring replacement for these four families, achieving a clean improvement of poor housing conditions.
Also, with 17 million KRW funded by the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea this year, they collectively purchased and provided COVID-19 test kits, sanitizers, disinfectants, and antipyretics to vulnerable children at 17 regional children’s centers throughout the county, proactively responding to the final stages of COVID-19 safety quarantine.
Kim Yeon-sook, chairman of the Gun Council, said, “We will continue to closely cooperate with administrative agencies to discover vulnerable groups in welfare blind spots and to meet welfare demand and supply.”
