Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Others
"It May Be Portrayed with Content Very Different from the Original"
Director Bong Joon-ho is set to work with top Hollywood actors in his next project, 'Mickey 7.' According to the American entertainment media Deadline on the 20th (local time), Tony Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie are likely to appear. Robert Pattinson, already confirmed as the lead, is expected to drive the story. Filming will begin this August in London, UK.
Collette is an Australian actress. She gained worldwide attention for her role in 'Muriel's Wedding (1995),' in which she gained 18 kg for the part. Her notable works include 'Velvet Goldmine (1998),' 'The Sixth Sense (1999),' 'Hereditary (2017),' 'Knives Out (2019),' and 'Nightmare Alley (2020).' She also won the Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for Best Actress in 2011 for the drama 'The United States of Tara.'
Ruffalo is popular in Korea as well for portraying Hulk (Bruce Banner) in Marvel Cinematic Universe films such as 'Avengers: Endgame (2019).' His breakout role was in 'You Can Count on Me (2000).' Recognized for his acting skills, he has appeared in 'Collateral (2004),' 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004),' 'Zodiac (2007),' 'Shutter Island (2010),' and 'Begin Again (2013).'
Ackie is a rising star recently gaining attention in Hollywood. After leaving a strong impression in 'Lady Macbeth (2017),' she participated in 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)' and 'Wild City (2019).' She also portrayed the legendary female artist Whitney Houston (1963?2012) in the upcoming film 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody.'
'Mickey 7' is based on the novel of the same name by Edward Ashton. It deals with the footsteps of expendable cloned humans dispatched to make the icy world habitable for humans. It simultaneously shows the hidden lives defying their fate of disposal and the threatened survival of humans. Deadline noted, "Considering Director Bong's past adaptations, the content may differ significantly from the original novel." 'Snowpiercer (2013)' is a representative example. The original novel of the same name by Jacques Lob and Benjamin Legrand is insightful but lacks detailed explanations about the train and other elements. The characters' colors are also bland, giving an overall impression of being less organized. Director Bong took the setting from the original but enhanced the completeness by focusing on a new story.
