Thailand Seeks to Attract Foreign Tourists, Allows Bar Operations After One Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] The Thai government has decided to allow entertainment establishments such as bars and karaoke venues to operate again after more than a year.
According to local media on the 20th, the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) held a meeting chaired by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and made this decision.
The CCSA has permitted entertainment venues, including bars and karaoke establishments, in 31 provinces such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai to operate until midnight and sell alcoholic beverages.
The Thai government's decision to allow the operation of entertainment venues and the sale of alcohol after more than a year is interpreted as an effort to accelerate attracting tourists amid the recent stabilization of the COVID-19 situation.
