Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Korean Register Collaborate on Digital and Smart Ship Technologies

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is accelerating the enhancement of digital technology together with the Korean Register (KR).
DSME announced on the 19th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KR for the "Development of Digitalization and Smart & Autonomous Ship Technology."
According to the agreement, the two organizations will form a joint working council and collaboratively promote research utilizing digital technology and the development of smart and autonomous ship-related technologies.
The key projects include ▲ development of smart ship services to improve ship operation safety and efficiency ▲ development and demonstration of autonomous navigation technology ▲ joint development of crew training content ▲ digital collaboration for realizing a smart yard.
DSME plans to lead research and technology development activities by utilizing its self-developed smart ship platform 'DS4' and data-based systems. KR is the only internationally accredited classification society in Korea. Last month, it also opened the Integrated Inspection Support Center (ISC) based on ship big data.
