[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is accepting nominations for the '2022 Family-Friendly Excellent Companies and Institutions Government Awards' from the 19th of this month until the 30th of next month.
Anyone, including individuals or companies, can recommend candidates for the awards, and submissions can be made via official documents or email. Detailed information such as the application form can be found on the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's website under the notices and announcements board.
The awards target 'Family-Friendly Certified' companies or institutions that have introduced family-friendly systems to promote work-life balance and contributed to spreading a family-friendly organizational culture. The period of family-friendly management must be at least two years. For the Presidential and Prime Minister's commendations, a minimum of five years of essential activity is required.
The award scale consists of a total of 19 awards: 4 Presidential Commendations, 5 Prime Minister Commendations, and 10 Minister of Gender Equality and Family Commendations.
After receiving recommendations, companies or institutions will undergo public verification and merit evaluation to finalize award recipients, who will be honored at the Family-Friendly Certification ceremony in December.
Last year, Hanwha Insurance Adjustment, which received the Presidential Commendation, was recognized for creating a work environment compatible with both work and family by hiring female workers who had career interruptions due to marriage and childcare in a six-hour reduced work schedule. They also operated campaigns for punctual commuting culture, self-development leave systems, and sabbatical leave systems.
Message, which received the Prime Minister's Commendation, operates a flexible work environment with a four-day workweek and autonomous commuting system, and provides a child allowance (200,000 KRW per month) for each child under 18 years old.

Lee Gi-soon, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, said, "In the era where family-friendly management has become a necessity rather than an option due to changes in the work environment such as the spread of remote work and non-face-to-face meetings after COVID-19, we hope that excellent companies and institutions will be actively recommended so that social consensus supporting and backing family-friendly workplace culture can expand."
