Candidate Nogwan-gyu for Suncheon Mayor Demands Medical School in Jeonnam Region from Yoon Seok-yeol Government
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Independent candidate for Suncheon mayor, Noh Gwan-gyu, stated on the 16th, "If elected mayor, I will demand the Yoon Seok-yeol administration to establish a medical school in the Jeonnam region."
Candidate Noh emphasized, "I urge the withdrawal of the 'Yoon Seok-yeol transition team's exclusion of medical school establishment in the Jeonnam area' and strongly call for the establishment of a medical school at Suncheon National University in particular."
He especially stressed the necessity by saying, "Jeonnam Province is the only metropolitan local government in South Korea without a medical school and its affiliated hospital, and among them, the eastern region of Jeonnam has a dense population and industrial facilities, making it practically the area with the highest demand."
Candidate Noh stated, "A medical school and its affiliated hospital are not just political slogans but are like oxygen to the lives of our Suncheon citizens. In this era of aging and through the pandemic situation like COVID-19, the establishment of a medical school at Suncheon National University is more urgently required than ever," reiterating the necessity.
Amid the recent incident of the 'Yoon Seok-yeol transition team's exclusion of medical school establishment in the Jeonnam area,' the loss of a foothold in Honam due to the regime change is felt even more deeply, and for the 'establishment of Suncheon National University Medical School,' it is believed that "a mayor with extensive political power and experience is needed."
He particularly pointed out, "So Byeong-cheol, the ruling Democratic Party member from Suncheon, has not expressed any position or countermeasures on this matter," and claimed, "Although I am an independent mayoral candidate, I can demand this from the Yoon Seok-yeol government more confidently."
Furthermore, he presented a practical strategy, saying, "If elected mayor, I will not only demand the medical school and wait but will support local medical institutions through policy support with a two-track strategy to upgrade their functions and specialization."
He also linked this to the integrated mega-city strategy, stating, "All these benefits will return to our Suncheon citizens and are connected to improving the quality of life for nearby county units and urban residents, serving as a foundation for advancing toward an integrated mega-city."
