[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The police announced on the 16th that they will operate an integrated election security situation room at 277 police stations starting from 3 p.m. on the 18th, the day before the start of the election campaign for the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections.
According to the Police Agency's "8th Nationwide Simultaneous Local Elections Security and Safety Activity Measures," the police will deploy a total of 164,363 officers to 41,006 locations including ballot printing offices, storage facilities, polling stations, and counting centers. From the start of the election campaign on the 19th until the completion of vote counting, commanders and staff officers will be stationed at their designated posts to strengthen vigilance, and on election day, they will be on full alert duty.

The election campaign will take place over 13 days from 0:00 on the 19th until 0:00 on the 1st of the following month. Voting will be held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 1st of the following month. Early voting will be available for two days from the 27th to the 28th of this month, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The number of officials to be elected in this election includes 17 metropolitan governors, 226 basic local government heads, 872 metropolitan council members, 2,975 basic council members, 17 superintendents of education, and 5 education council members, totaling 4,112 people. By-elections and supplementary elections to elect 7 members of the National Assembly will also be held simultaneously.
