Gwangju Mayor Candidate Ju Gi-hwan Promises to Attract Seonamkwon Nuclear Medical Center
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 13th, Joo Ki-hwan, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced plans to attract the Southwest Nuclear Medicine Institute to Gwangju.
He aims to significantly enhance the health and safety levels of the entire Honam region by establishing a radiation emergency medical system.
Candidate Joo stated, “The Korea Institute of Nuclear Medicine headquarters is located in Seoul, and the Southeast Nuclear Medicine Institute exists as a branch in Busan. By attracting the Southwest Nuclear Medicine Institute to the Gwangju Research and Development Special Zone, we can resolve medical imbalances compared to the metropolitan and Yeongnam regions while consolidating the Gwangju area’s photonics-convergence medical industry.”
He continued, “The Southwest Nuclear Medicine Institute will require an investment of 700 billion won from national and city funds and a five-year construction period to build a 100-bed facility, which will play a significant role in revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs. With the introduction of cutting-edge medical technology, regional medical services will be dramatically improved, and it will also enable efficient responses to national disaster situations.”
