Hwasun-gun 'Dogok Nonghyup Donong Sangsaeng Center' Completed... Expected to Revitalize Local Economy

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] On the 13th, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do announced the completion of the ‘Dogok Nonghyup Local Food Smart Farm Urban-Rural Win-Win Center’ next to the Dogok Nonghyup Local Food Direct Store.

About 200 people attended the completion ceremony, including the Hwasun County Governor, Park Seo-hong, head of NH Jeonnam Regional Headquarters, Kim Jong-myeong, head of Hwasun County Branch, Seo Byung-yeon, chairman of Dogok Nonghyup, and executives of Nonghyup.

The Dogok Nonghyup Local Food Smart Farm Urban-Rural Win-Win Center (hereinafter Dogok Nonghyup Urban-Rural Win-Win Center) is a state-of-the-art agricultural complex facility equipped with a glass greenhouse, experience facilities, and sales facilities where urban consumers can tour and experience the cultivation and production process of agricultural products.

Hwasun-gun and Dogok Nonghyup expect the operation of the Urban-Rural Win-Win Center to have effects such as enhancing the image of safe local agricultural products, increasing agricultural product sales, increasing farm income, and revitalizing the local economy.

The construction of the Dogok Nonghyup Urban-Rural Win-Win Center started in October 2020 and lasted for one year and six months, with a total project cost of 2.1 billion KRW (19% provincial subsidy, 48% county subsidy, 33% self-funding).

The Dogok Nonghyup Local Food Direct Store, which opened in January 2014, currently has about 690 farms selling agricultural products.

It generates annual sales of 8.5 billion KRW, and the average daily number of visitors reaches about 1,200.

A county official said, “We hope the Urban-Rural Win-Win Center will be established as a communication space between local farms and urban consumers in connection with the Local Food Direct Store and become a model case of win-win cooperation between urban and rural areas. We will faithfully implement the food plan, a comprehensive strategy for local food, and do our best to revitalize local food, foster the 6th industry, and develop local agriculture.”
