[Profile] Nam Seong-hyun, Former Director of the Forest Science Institute, Appointed as New Commissioner of Korea Forest Service

View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The government has appointed Nam Seong-hyun (64, photo), former director of the National Institute of Forest Science, as the new Commissioner of the Korea Forest Service.
Commissioner Nam began his public service career in 1978 as a Grade 7 administrative officer at the Korea Forest Service and has held various positions including Director of Forest Products Distribution Division, Planning and Budget Officer, Director of Forest Aviation Headquarters, Planning and Management Officer, Director of Forest Utilization Bureau, and Planning and Coordination Officer.
Since 2017, he served as the Director of the National Institute of Forest Science, contributing to the development of both administrative and research fields of the Korea Forest Service until his retirement.
During his 38 years of public service, Commissioner Nam received several honors including the Model Public Official Award in 1986, the Order of Service Merit in 2000, and the Order of Civil Merit, Red Stripes in 2017.
Even after retirement, he has maintained interest in income generation for forestry workers and has continued activities such as university lectures and external consulting.
With the appointment of Commissioner Nam, the Korea Forest Service has consecutively appointed internal commissioners for three terms, following former Commissioners Park Jong-ho and Choi Byung-am.
