Boryeong Promotes 'Upcycling' of Hemodialysis Solution Containers... Signs MOU with Global Infratech
Reborn as Industrial Products Such as Cosmetic Containers
Expected Annual Plastic Reduction of 1416 Tons
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Boryung (formerly Boryung Pharmaceutical) announced on the 11th that it has signed a business agreement with the recycling specialist company 'Global Infratech' to upcycle blood dialysis solution containers.
Through this agreement, Boryung's blood dialysis solution 'Hemosis' polyethylene (PE) containers will be collected free of charge through Global Infratech, and after undergoing a recycling process applying Global Infratech's nanoparticle technology and antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal technologies, they will be reborn as cosmetic containers and other products.
Until now, blood dialysis solution PE containers were mostly discarded as general waste after use in hospitals without being recycled. Additionally, hospitals have independently selected collection companies to carry out consigned disposal.
Boryung explained that to reduce the inconvenience of consigned disposal and the burden of environmental pollution, as well as to further increase the recycling rate, it has become the first domestic dialysis company to promote free collection and upcycling of blood dialysis solution containers.
Boryung's blood dialysis solution Hemosis is currently used in about 385 hospitals, with approximately 210,000 bottles used monthly. Since the collected PE containers are 100% recycled into upcycled products, if the entire current usage amount is collected, it is expected to reduce 118 tons of plastic monthly and 1,416 tons annually.
