Namwon Municipal Gugak Orchestra to Hold Gain Chunhyang Performance Starting from the 14th

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] The Ga-in Chunhyang performance by the Jeonbuk Namwon City Gugak Orchestra will begin on the 14th.

The Namwon City Gugak Orchestra announced on the 10th that the Ga-in Chunhyang performance will be held every Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Hwain-dang outdoor performance hall until August 27.

Due to the nature of outdoor performances, the schedule may be extended if canceled due to rain.

Namwon Changgeuk "Ga-in Chunhyang," organized by the Cultural Arts Association Seomjingang, depicts the story of pansori singer Song Seondal meeting Cheonghyang of Namwon village and composing the pansori "Chunhyangga" in a play-within-a-play format.

The story of Chunhyangjeon, which is very well known to us and could be considered clich?d, is reinterpreted with a modern sensibility by adding a new device called composition.

The Namwon City Gugak Orchestra will showcase the classic style of pansori with the appearance of master singers who have won the Presidential Award, including Im Hyun-bin (as Song Seondal), Chae Won-young (as Cheonghyang), and Jo Seon-ha (as Chunhyang), captivating the audience’s eyes and ears with splendid group dances and lively gugak orchestral performances.

This year, to revitalize tourist attractions around Gwanghallu Garden, the performances will be held at the Hanbok Experience Center Hwain-dang and the outdoor performance hall in front of the complex cultural space Yeruwon.

In the evening after sunset, the tranquil hanok combined with beautiful lighting will add to the charm.

Namwon Changgeuk began in 2013 as part of the nighttime regular performances utilizing hanok resources, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Jeollabuk-do, and has become a representative tourist product of Namwon, receiving favorable reviews from audiences for its high-quality performances.

Unlike last year, when some performances were held non-face-to-face due to the spread of COVID-19, this year the performances will directly communicate with the audience on-site, increasing interest and expectations for the shows.

Meanwhile, the Namwon City Gugak Orchestra will start various performance programs in the first half of this year from this month.

The Traditional Sound Group, focusing on folk music, will perform every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. from the 18th at Wanwoljeong in Gwanghallu Garden, and the fusion gugak concert "Night Scenery of Yeruwon" will be held every Friday at 8 p.m. from the 20th at the Hwain-dang outdoor performance hall.
