Kim Seung-hyun, Democratic Party Candidate for Gangseo District Mayor, Announces First Economic and Job Creation Pledge... Presents Balanced Development Vision through Development of Gimpo International Airport and Current District Office Site
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Kim Seunghyun, the Democratic Party candidate for Gangseo District Mayor, announced economic and job creation pledges aimed at driving Gangseo's economic growth and creating quality jobs.
Candidate Kim stated, "Through the development project of the Gimpo International Airport Urban Regeneration Innovation District, we will establish an aviation transportation industry cluster and a complex logistics hub," adding, "We expect an economic ripple effect of approximately 3.8 trillion KRW and the creation of about 29,000 jobs." He also expressed his commitment by saying, "We will expand convenience facilities including a library, gymnasium, and public parking lot at Gimpo Airport," and "We will promote this as a regional win-win development that contributes to the residents."
The Gimpo International Airport Urban Regeneration Innovation District development project is being promoted to enhance the role and strengthen the functions of Gimpo Airport as a downtown hub airport.
Additionally, it aims to coexist with nearby residential areas that have been continuously affected by height restriction regulations and aircraft noise.
Candidate Kim also explained, "We will attract a new landmark reflecting residents' preferences on the site of the current district office, which is scheduled to be relocated," and "We will conduct a feasibility study and a public opinion survey among residents regarding the site utilization plan immediately after taking office."
Along with this, he pledged to promptly carry out an aeronautical review to ease height restriction regulations, stating, "We will strive to make the district office development the first case of height restriction relaxation." Furthermore, Candidate Kim emphasized balanced growth in Gangseo District by saying, "We will turn the relocation of the district office into an opportunity to revitalize the economy of the Hwagok-dong area."
The current Gangseo District Office, completed in 1977, has limited space and outdated facilities, leading to the operation of annex buildings and multiple dispersed offices. This has continuously raised concerns about inefficiency in work and inconvenience to residents. Gangseo District is promoting the construction of an integrated new district office building, aiming for completion in 2026. The integrated new building will house the district office, district council, public health center, and various convenience facilities.
