President-elect Yoon Announces 15 Deputy Ministers for Ministries: "We Will Ensure No Gaps Occur"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol made appointments for vice ministers and the Presidential Secretariat on the 9th.
The office of President-elect Yoon stated in the afternoon, "The President-elect announced these appointments with the determination to ensure that there will be no gaps in government operations. He plans to sign and issue the related orders immediately upon inauguration."
First, Bang Ki-seon, a standing director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was appointed as the 1st Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, and Choi Sang-dae, Director of the Budget Office at the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, was appointed as the 2nd Vice Minister.
Jang Sang-yoon, Director of Social Coordination at the Office for Government Policy Coordination, was appointed as Vice Minister of Education; Cho Hyun-dong, Head of the Korea Investment Promotion Office at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), was appointed as the 1st Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Lee Do-hoon, former Chief Negotiator for Peace on the Korean Peninsula at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed as the 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Jang, the appointee, will temporarily act as the Minister of Education, a position left vacant by the voluntary resignation of Kim In-cheol, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education nominee.
Kim Ki-woong, former Unification Secretary at the Presidential Secretariat, was appointed as Vice Minister of Unification; Shin Beom-cheol, President of the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade and Director of the Center for Foreign Affairs and Security, was appointed as Vice Minister of National Defense; Han Chang-seop, Director of Government Innovation and Organization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was appointed as Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety; and Kim Seong-ho, Director of Disaster Management at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was appointed as Head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the vice ministerial level.
Jeon Byeong-geuk, Head of Innovation Management at Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), was appointed as the 1st Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Kim In-jung, Deputy Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, was appointed as Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Jang Young-jin, President of the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, was appointed as the 1st Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; and Professor Ahn Deok-geun of Seoul National University was appointed as Head of the Trade Negotiation Headquarters at the vice ministerial level.
Jo Gyu-hong, Director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), was appointed as the 1st Vice Minister of Health and Welfare; Lee Gi-il, Director of Health and Medical Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, was appointed as the 2nd Vice Minister; Yoo Je-cheol, President of the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, was appointed as Vice Minister of Environment; Kwon Ki-seop, Head of the Occupational Safety and Health Headquarters at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, was appointed as Vice Minister of Employment and Labor; Lee Won-jae, Head of the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, was appointed as the 1st Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Song Sang-geun, Director of Marine Policy at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, was appointed as Vice Minister of Oceans and Fisheries; and Jo Joo-hyun, Director of Small Business Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, was appointed as Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups.
