Lee Dong-joo "Yoon, Presents 5 Major Demands Urging Fulfillment of Presidential Pledges Including Compensation for Small Business Owners"
Full Retroactive Compensation for Losses, Establishment of a 50 Trillion Won Loss Compensation Fund, and Rent Sharing System
Proposal to Ruling and Opposition Leaders for the Formation of a 'Special Parliamentary Committee for the Rapid Recovery of COVID-19 Livelihoods'
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 9th, Lee Dong-ju, a member of the National Assembly's Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Venture Business Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, presented '5 major demands' regarding President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's presidential campaign pledge on 'COVID-19 compensation for small business owners,' urging, "The transition committee should thoroughly review the pledge cancellation from the beginning and strictly fulfill the promises made to the public during the presidential election period."
On the same day, Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and announced the '5 major demands urging the fulfillment of COVID-19 loss compensation pledges,' stating, "Contrary to Yoon's promise to 'complete COVID-19 damage compensation within 100 days after inauguration,' a record-breaking pledge cancellation has been made even before taking office."
Lee pointed out, "The Yoon Seok-yeol administration's start, which casually and easily breaks promises made to the public such as full retroactive loss compensation, the establishment of a 50 trillion won loss compensation fund, the rent-sharing system, and the Korean-style PPP, must be noted with concern and disappointment by the people." He then emphasized the pledge related to securing 50 trillion won in financial resources for loss compensation for small business owners and self-employed people, which was presented as the 'No. 1 presidential campaign pledge,' saying, "The scale of financial support and the plan for securing resources for complete loss compensation must be disclosed promptly."
Additionally, he demanded solutions regarding ▲ the stance on retroactive application of loss compensation and measures to eliminate blind spots ▲ the implementation plan for establishing a bad bank to resolve issues faced by small business owners and self-employed people suffering from COVID-19 debts ▲ extension of debt maturity, repayment deferral, and debt adjustment plans for small business owners until the post-endemic recovery period ▲ and the implementation plans for the 'Korean-style Half Rent Project' (Korean-style PPP) and the 'Rent Sharing System' announced on January 2 and 11 of this year.
Lee stated, "The above 5 major demands will be a touchstone to determine whether the Yoon Seok-yeol administration fulfills its pledges," adding, "The small business owners, self-employed, and the public will closely watch until the end whether there is only talk or actual will to practice and implement."
He also suggested to the leadership of both ruling and opposition parties the formation of a 'Special Committee of the National Assembly for Rapid Recovery of COVID-19 Livelihoods' at the National Assembly level, saying, "Special measures must be prepared to restore damages and strengthen the self-sustainability of small business owners and the self-employed."
