UK Defense Ministry Analyzes Severe Losses in Russia's Elite Unit
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced on the 7th (local time) that it had sunk a Russian naval vessel in the Black Sea.
A video released on Twitter by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense on the same day showed a Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drone of the Ukrainian military striking a Russian Serna-class landing craft near Zmiinyi Island (Snake Island) in the Black Sea on the previous day, the 6th.
Satellite images taken shortly after the attack show black smoke rising from the estimated strike location depicted in the video.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, revealing the strike, stated, "The Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet military parade, which used to be held on May 9th (Russia's Victory Day), will take place this year at the bottom of the sea near Zmiinyi Island."
The Serna-class landing craft is a small vessel measuring 25.6 meters in length and 5.8 meters in width. It is used for landing military equipment and troops.
Since sinking the Black Sea Fleet flagship Moskva last month, the Ukrainian military has continued attacks on Russian naval vessels near the Black Sea.
The British daily The Guardian reported that as the Ukrainian military launches counterattacks against Russian forces on land, the safety of Kharkiv, the second-largest city, is expected to be secured soon.
The U.S. think tank Institute for the Study of War analyzed, "Soon, the Ukrainian military will push Russian forces out of artillery range in Kharkiv," adding, "As a result, the city will breathe easier, and the Ukrainian military will gain the momentum needed for a broader and more successful counteroffensive."
