This is effectively a procedure for registering Ahn Cheol-soo, the chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee. Ahn's side announced that they will hold a press conference for his candidacy at the National Assembly Communication Hall tomorrow (the 8th).
The nomination committee stated in a press release on the same day, "For Gyeyang-eul and Bundang-gap, additional announcements will be made until the morning of May 9, and applications will be accepted on the afternoon of the 9th."
Previously, three candidates applied for Bundang-gap: former lawmaker Park Min-sik, lawyer Jang Young-ha who wrote the book "Goodbye, Lee Jae-myung," and former Seoul mayoral by-election candidate Jeong Dong-hee. Chairman Ahn is expected to apply for candidacy registration on the 9th.
Yoon Sang-hyun, chairman of the nomination committee, told reporters on the day, "Chairman Ahn has expressed his intention to apply for the Bundang-gap nomination," adding, "He will submit his application next Monday."
Gyeyang-eul is classified as a difficult district, and it seems that the strategic nomination of Lee Jae-myung, senior advisor of the Democratic Party of Korea, was taken into consideration. In the People Power Party, former Incheon Medical Association president Yoon Hyung-sun, former school violence countermeasure committee chairman Seol Won-seop, and former adjunct professor at Daejeon University and Konyang University Song Kwang-young have applied.
