Yangcheon District Mayor Kim Su-young Challenges for Third Term...Candidate Registration with Election Commission

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon District, held a press conference on the 3rd to announce his candidacy for the June 1 local elections. On the 6th, he visited the Yangcheon District Election Commission to register as the Democratic Party of Korea's preliminary candidate for Yangcheon District Mayor, officially entering the election race for the 8th term of the civilian government.
Kim Soo-young, who received the sole nomination from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, "Over the past eight years, I have led Yangcheon’s development through hands-on leadership by foot, including redevelopment in the Sinwol and Sinjeong areas, development of the Galsan area, remodeling of five major parks, and actively promoting the reconstruction of Mokdong Apartments. Especially during the COVID-19 situation, I was praised for innovative policies such as the Good Consumption Prepayment Campaign and the Youth Digital Supporters Project, which demonstrated our crisis management capabilities." He expressed his ambition as a prepared three-term mayor to complete long-standing local projects such as the reconstruction of Mokdong Apartments and the establishment of a light rail transit network.
Kim Soo-young, a former president of the Ewha Womans University Student Council, earned a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Soongsil University Graduate School. He has served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Social Welfare at Soongsil University and as the mayor of Yangcheon District during the 6th and 7th civilian government terms. He also worked as a member of the Presidential Committee on Jobs.
His publications include Resilience City, which deals with urban resilience and future leaps in the COVID era, as well as Hope Bloomed in Despair, Yangcheon, Butterfly Wings, and co-authored works on social enterprises and social services.

Candidate Kim plans to hold an opening ceremony on the 7th at 4 p.m. at his campaign office near Mokdong Station on Subway Line 5 (201 Mokdong-ro).
