[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 6th that it held the ‘2022 Incheon Airport Safety Management System Committee’.
The Incheon Airport Safety Management System Committee, held on the 4th at the corporation’s main conference room, is the highest decision-making body that discusses current issues and countermeasures related to the safety of aircraft movement areas at Incheon Airport.
Established in 2006 to set safety policies and goals for aircraft movement areas at Incheon Airport and to proactively predict and manage risk factors, the committee has been held annually for 17 years. A total of 19 related organizations, including Incheon Airport Corporation, major airlines, and ground handling companies, participate.
This committee was attended by about 30 stakeholders, including Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon Airport Corporation, safety executives from nine airlines, top executives of eight ground handling companies, and safety field practitioners from each company.
Representing the airlines were nine attendees including Lopez Meyer, Executive Director of Korean Air, and Choi Young-geun, Managing Director of Asiana Airlines. Ground handling companies were represented by eight attendees including Lee Seung-beom, CEO of Korea Airport Corporation, Nam Ki-hyung, CEO of Asiana Airport, and Baek Soon-seok, CEO of Sharp Aviation K.
Through this meeting, the corporation shared the achievements Incheon Airport made last year in the field of aviation safety. They also discussed ▲establishing safety policy goals for 2022 ▲deriving detailed implementation tasks to achieve the goals ▲discovering tasks to spread safety culture, and other measures to strengthen safety in aircraft movement areas at Incheon Airport.
This year, with an expected increase in workload due to the full-scale recovery of air travel demand, discussions focused on strengthening training to improve the proficiency of employees on leave and new hires, and expanding pre-inspections of idle equipment to prevent accidents. Discussions on improving the quality of ground handling services were also conducted. Based on the results, the corporation plans to sign service agreements with airlines and ground handling companies and introduce a quality evaluation system to enhance safety and improve quality.
