A Splashing Stage... Ulsan City Dance Company Presents Regular Performance ‘水作’
Domestic Dance Scene Praised, Audience Response Huge Success, Ulsan Brand Cultural Product
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Ulsan City Dance Company, which is promoting a traditional dance succession and development project, will stage the work "Sujak (水作)," which has been praised by the domestic dance community.
Ulsan City announced on the 6th that it will present Sujak as the 45th regular performance at 8 p.m. on the 13th at the Ulsan Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater.
Starting with the inaugural performance of Artistic Director Hong Eun-joo of the Ulsan City Dance Company in 2018, and showcased as the 40th regular performance in 2019, "Sujak (水作)" is a highly accomplished work combining regional characteristics and artistic quality, themed around the Taehwa River, the lifeline of Ulsan.
Through this 45th regular performance, the plan is to further enhance its completeness and steadily develop it as an excellent repertoire of the Ulsan City Dance Company, making it a representative cultural product of Ulsan.
Sujak is a work that embodies the "journey of water" symbolizing "cleansing-recovery-harmony," centered on the Taehwa River that runs through Ulsan, a city embracing mountains, rivers, and the sea, expressed through dynamic Korean dance.
A special water tank device measuring 12m x 9m filled with water is installed on stage, and a group dance creating refreshing splashes is performed, vividly expressing the scene with a strong sense of presence.
Artistic Director Hong Eun-joo of the Ulsan City Dance Company introduced, "We captured the beautiful natural environment and cultural heritage of Ulsan, from the Taehwa River, the ten-ri bamboo forest, crows, to the sea, through the flow of water in each scene."
