US Sees Increased Vehicle Sales and Growing Importance of Technology Development
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Jose Munoz, President of Hyundai Motor America, will join the headquarters board of directors. This is the first time that a head of an overseas subsidiary has joined Hyundai Motor's board. This move is interpreted as a recognition of Munoz's performance and an expansion of his role as the importance of the U.S. business increases at the Hyundai Motor Group level.
According to materials released by Hyundai Motor America on the 2nd (local time), Munoz has been nominated as a member of Hyundai Motor's headquarters board. The approval process will take place at the shareholders' meeting in March next year. Munoz currently serves as the Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) and simultaneously as the Head of the Americas and North America divisions. Currently, Hyundai Motor's board consists of five inside directors, including Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and CEO Jang Jae-hoon, and six outside directors.
Along with his new position, Munoz will lead a newly established office responsible for managing and planning the global product line. The company explained, "He will be responsible for driving better performance in key strategic regions including Europe, India, and the Middle East & Africa," and "He will lead global talent acquisition and management to gather core business talents based on new technologies."
On the 13th of last month (local time), 'The New Palisade' and Hyundai Motor Group executives made their debut at the New York International Auto Show 2022 held at the Javits Center in New York, USA. The United States is the largest single country market among the regions Hyundai Motor Group has entered. While performance in China has declined sharply, sales in the U.S. have increased, raising market share to fifth place. Additionally, it is a place where the group is fostering new businesses such as autonomous driving and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Chairman Chung Eui-sun has made three business trips to the U.S. this year alone, reflecting this background.
