Democratic Party Confirms Incumbent Mayor Lee Chun-hee as Sejong City Mayoral Candidate
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Democratic Party of Korea has confirmed Lee Chun-hee, the current mayor of Sejong City, as its candidate for the Sejong mayoral election in the June 1 local elections.
On the 1st, the Democratic Party's Central Election Commission announced that Mayor Lee was selected as the final candidate after defeating former Sejong City Deputy Mayor Jo Sang-ho in the runoff for the Sejong mayoral candidate. Lee will be challenging for his third consecutive term since the 2014 local elections.
The Democratic Party Election Commission conducted a runoff vote (50% party members, 50% general public) over four days starting from the 28th of last month between Mayor Lee and former Deputy Mayor Jo.

Previously, three candidates registered for the Sejong mayoral nomination: Mayor Lee, former Deputy Mayor Jo, and Bae Seon-ho, vice chairman of the Sejong City Party. No candidate secured a majority in the three-way primary. Vice Chairman Bae ranked third and was eliminated from the race.
