‘Newly Established Department’ Dongshin University Taekwondo Department Wins Silver Medal in First National Competition Appearance
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The newly established Taekwondo Department at Dongshin University achieved a silver medal in its first national competition appearance.
According to Dongshin University, first-year Taekwondo student Ko Tae-young (19) participated in the 49th National University Taekwondo Individual Championship organized by the Korea University Taekwondo Federation and won a silver medal in the Poomsae category.
The competition, held from the 22nd to the 26th of last month at Tongyeong Gymnasium in Pyeongnim-dong, Tongyeong City, Gyeongnam Province, featured about 2,900 participants from 98 teams including university students and Taekwondo enthusiasts, competing in sparring, poomsae, and Taekwondo performances.
The Dongshin University Taekwondo Department, which admitted its first batch of freshmen this year, formed a team solely with first-year students and achieved the remarkable feat of winning a silver medal in their first national competition.
Student Ko Tae-young said, “I did my best to show a respectable senior image to the juniors who will join next year,” and added, “I will continue to do my best to promote Dongshin University’s Taekwondo Department to universities and high schools nationwide.”
Regarding this, An Min-joo, head of the Taekwondo Department at Dongshin University, said, “Winning a prize in the first competition marked a step forward for the Taekwondo Department at Dongshin University and provided an opportunity for students to grow into outstanding talents,” and added, “Please continue to support the remarkable achievements of the Taekwondo Department.”
