In Beijing, China, where the Labor Day holiday (April 30 to May 4) has begun, 54 new COVID-19 infections were reported.
According to the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention on the 30th, 54 new infections (including 6 asymptomatic cases) were confirmed in Beijing the previous day.
Following the designation of six management and control zones where residents are not allowed to leave their residential complexes unless for essential reasons?one in Chaoyang District on the 25th, two in Tongzhou District and one in Fengtai District on the 26th, and two in Chaoyang District on the 27th?an additional zone in Haidian District was designated on this day. Currently, 361 buildings in these management and control zones are under lockdown. Restaurants, cinemas, libraries, art galleries, museums, karaoke rooms, and PC cafes in these areas are not allowed to open. However, stores selling basic daily necessities, supermarkets, and hospitals continue to operate normally.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Beijing has suspended cinema operations and various performance programs during the Labor Day holiday and has also ordered the closure of restaurants within the city. Starting May 5, when the Labor Day holiday ends, passengers using public transportation in Beijing must present a negative PCR test certificate issued within the past 7 days to board. Beijing is also constructing temporary COVID-19 hospitals to accommodate the increasing number of infections. A Beijing city official stated, "We have already built a temporary hospital with 4,000 beds and plan to construct additional relatively large-scale temporary hospitals."
Meanwhile, the number of new infections in Shanghai the previous day was 10,181 (including 8,932 asymptomatic cases). After excluding cases that were double-counted due to reclassification from asymptomatic to symptomatic confirmed cases, the actual number of new infections was 9,196, a slight decrease from 9,970 on the 28th. Shanghai, with a population of 25 million, has been under lockdown for 34 days since April 28 due to the rising number of COVID-19 infections.
