The variety being cultivated this time is the early-maturing Jin-gwang Jin-ok rice. Through a contract cultivation agreement with the local agricultural cooperative, approximately 15 tons are expected to be harvested around the end of August. It is planned to be sold as new rice for the Chuseok holiday, earlier than usual.
Jin-gwang Jin-ok rice, developed by the Rural Development Administration in 2013 and 2016, is an early-maturing variety with excellent rice quality, taste, milling characteristics, and resistance to pests and diseases. Planting early-maturing rice early allows for early harvest, which can help prevent damage caused by typhoons and other weather-related hazards.
