Government to Operate 'Children's Literature Week' Next Month
'Children's Literature Stage' Unfolds at About Forty Literary and Library Venues
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will operate the 'Children's Literature Week' next month. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Children's Day (May 5), a space will be created for children to enjoy literature and form a sense of community. Children's Day was established in 1923 by Sofa Bang Jeong-hwan and Saekdonghoe to inspire the national spirit among children. Saekdonghoe was a literary circle founded by Bang Jeong-hwan for youth movements and children's literature.
The opening eve (April 30) and the opening ceremony (May 1) will be held at the Cheondogyo Central Cathedral. Performances will include a choral suite of Bang Jeong-hwan's children's songs, a recitation of the fairy tale "The Night of April's Last Day," and the play "Moda is Spring." A march will take place from the birthplace of Master Sofa in Dangjudong to the Cheondogyo Central Cathedral, reflecting on the significance of these historic sites.
