Yeungnam Polytechnic University Selected for Final Round of 'Industry-Academia-Research Collabo R&D Project'
Securing Core Technology for Pet Care Cosmetics... 400 Million KRW Government Subsidy Support
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Yeungnam Institute of Science and Technology has been finally selected for the ‘2022 Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration R&D Project’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
This project was prepared to promote innovative growth of small and medium enterprises and create jobs through the activation of industry-academia-research collaboration R&D.
The lead research and development institution proposes freely according to the project purpose, and among the first-stage preliminary research tasks, those within the top 50% whose technical feasibility, marketability, and business viability have been verified proceed to the second-stage commercialization R&D support.
The Department of Cosmetics and Chemical Engineering at Yeungnam Institute of Science and Technology is conducting this project together with ‘Kkumgwa Sonamu,’ a hygiene product specialized company, to secure original technologies related to cosmetics for pet care and gain technological superiority in response to the recent increase in the pet-owning population and the growth of the related market.
Yeungnam Institute of Science and Technology and Kkumgwa Sonamu will conduct preliminary research on cosmetics technology for pet care for eight months and, depending on the results, will receive up to 400 million KRW in government support over two years.

Professor Lee Jong-min of the Institute of Science and Technology said, “Currently, the pet care product market is dominated by foreign brands, but through this national project, we can enhance the reliability of domestic products and increase market share,” adding, “Based on the excellent technological capabilities of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation and Kkumgwa Sonamu, we will strive to activate an innovative industry-academia-research cooperative relationship and maximize corporate value.”
