[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new COVID-19 cases has remained below 100,000 for a week. The number of critically ill patients hospitalized has dropped to the 500s for the first time in 62 days.
On the 27th, the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight, 76,787 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 17,086,626.
The daily number of new cases has stayed below 100,000 for seven consecutive days since recording 90,858 on the 21st. Compared to the same day last week (111,301), it is at 0.69%.
The number of critically ill patients hospitalized is 546, falling below 600 for the first time in 62 days. The number of critically ill patients had been above 600 daily since February 25, when it reached 655. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 31.4%, with 30.1% in the metropolitan area and 34.4% in non-metropolitan areas, all in the 30% range.
The number of deaths recorded as of midnight was 141, an increase of 59 from the previous day (82). The cumulative death toll is 22,466, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.
The number of patients undergoing home treatment for COVID-19 increased by 75,148 on the 26th, totaling 441,745. Among them, 39,448 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.
