Jeon Chang-gon "Kim Hoe-jae's Unfair Primary Interference... Demand for Fact-Finding and Disciplinary Action" Controversy Spreads
Yeosu Mayor Candidate Jeon Chang-gon Shocked by the Facts...
Assemblyman Kim Hoe-jae's Public Support for Kang Hwa-soo is a 'Violation of Fair Primary, Anti-Democratic Behavior'
Democratic Party Demands Disciplinary Action Against Assemblyma
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Jeon Chang-gon, a preliminary candidate for Yeosu mayor, strongly opposed the public endorsement of candidate Kang Hwa-su by National Assembly member Kim Hoe-jae, calling it an anti-democratic act that undermines a fair primary.
On the 22nd, Jeon Chang-gon held an emergency press conference at the Yeosu City Hall briefing room and strongly protested, saying, "It is an anti-democratic act that undermines a fair primary and mocks the citizens of Yeosu that National Assembly member Kim Hoe-jae, who is a member of the Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Party Public Office Candidate Recommendation Management Committee, publicly endorsed Kang Hwa-su, a preliminary candidate for Yeosu mayor, yesterday."
He especially stated, "Candidate Kang Hwa-su is publicly promoting on SNS that Kim Hoe-jae mobilized 17 preliminary candidates for provincial councilor, city councilor, and proportional representation preparing for the local election in his own constituency," and added, "As a regional chairman and a public office candidate recommendation committee member of the Democratic Party Yeosu regional primary candidates who value fairness, I cannot help but feel shocked and appalled by Kim Hoe-jae’s ugly factional politics and old-fashioned political attempts such as lining up."
Jeon said, "This is a serious outrage and an act of terror against local democracy," and "It is hard to imagine that someone who should manage the primary fairly and uphold the party’s values could commit such acts without any sense of problem."
He also pointed out, "The fact that such anti-democratic primary-damaging behavior is being openly promoted without any guilt shows that candidate Kang Hwa-su is also ignorant of the principle of fairness and has no hesitation in disregarding citizens and party members."
Jeon warned, "There have been several disputes over unfairness during the primary process, but if National Assembly member Kim Hoe-jae’s shameless interference and factional lining-up continue, this primary will inevitably become the worst Democratic Party primary in history due to a lawmaker’s intervention."
Jeon Chang-gon demanded, "National Assembly member Kim Hoe-jae, who seriously damaged the value of fair elections in the Democratic Party, should apologize to the citizens and withdraw his support for candidate Kang Hwa-su."
He also called on the Democratic Party to conduct a thorough investigation and impose appropriate disciplinary actions, urging Kim Hoe-jae to resign from his positions as a public office candidate recommendation committee member and regional chairman.
