Transition Committee: "Grandmother Lee Yong-su, Difficult for Japan-Korea Policy Consultation Group to Accompany to Japan"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Regarding the demand by Japanese military comfort women victim grandmother Lee Yong-soo (94) to accompany the Korea-Japan Policy Consultation Delegation, the Presidential Transition Committee expressed on the 22nd that it is difficult.
Shin Yong-hyun, spokesperson for the Transition Committee, said at a briefing room in Tongui-dong in the afternoon, "(The delegation) is not going to Japan to make policy agreements but rather to coordinate policies, so accompaniment is difficult."
Grandmother Lee and officials from the Committee for the Promotion of Referral of the Japanese Military Comfort Women Issue to the ICJ visited the Transition Committee in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul around noon the previous day, urging the referral of the comfort women issue to the UN Committee Against Torture (CAT) and requesting to accompany the Korea-Japan Policy Consultation Delegation.
It was reported that Grandmother Lee tried to meet with Jeong Jin-seok, a member of the People Power Party and head of the Policy Consultation Delegation, that morning, but the meeting was unsuccessful, leading her to visit the Transition Committee.
Grandmother Lee’s party requested a meeting in front of the Transition Committee to deliver materials containing their demands, and a Transition Committee official accepted the materials. Lee’s side requested business cards, but the official showed reluctance.
