Samsung Galaxy S22 Sales Off to a Smooth Start in Japan
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S22 has made a smooth start in sales in Japan. Samsung Electronics announced on the 22nd that the Galaxy S22 series recorded sales 50% higher than its predecessor during the pre-sale period ahead of its official launch in Japan. Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S22 series in Japan on the 21st of this month through carriers such as KDDI and NTT Docomo, and conducted a two-week pre-sale from the 7th to the 20th.
Unlike in Korea, Japan released two models: the Galaxy S22 Ultra and the Galaxy S22. During the pre-sale, the model equipped with the S Pen, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, showed higher preference.
Japan is a market dominated by Apple and local companies, with Chinese companies recently joining the competition, making it even more intense. According to Japan's market research firm MM Research Institute (MMRI), last year the total smartphone market in Japan recorded 36.542 million units, a 12.6% increase compared to the previous year, setting a new shipment record. Samsung Electronics ranks fourth in market share after Apple, Sony, and Sharp.
