Gangwon Police Focus Crackdown on 'Large Motorcycle Illegal Activities'
Permission for Noise, Illegal Modification, Structural Changes, and Accident-Inducing Acts Such as Center Line Invasion and Reckless Driving
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon police will conduct joint crackdowns with local governments, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and other related organizations on traffic violations in areas with frequent large motorcycle traffic on weekends and holidays until the 31st of next month.
The Gangwon Provincial Police Agency announced on the 22nd that this measure is in response to the increased risk of accidents and rising noise complaints from residents due to the surge in large motorcycle operations during the spring season.
The main targets of the crackdown are violations such as crossing the center line, reckless driving, noise, illegal modifications, and unauthorized structural changes.
High-accident areas include two locations each in Hongcheon, Sokcho, Pyeongchang, Goseong, Inje, and Hwacheon, and one location each in Chuncheon, Gangneung, Wonju, Samcheok, and Hoengseong?roads with heavy motorcycle traffic.
Meanwhile, the high-accident routes are National Road No. 56 (Chuncheon~Hongcheon), National Road No. 44 (Hongcheon~Sokcho), and National Road No. 7 (Goseong~Gangneung).
Notably, 88.9% (16 people) of all accidents involved non-locals and were found to be single-vehicle accidents due to unfamiliarity with the geography.
