Held at Saemangeum Reclaimed Land, Buan-gun, Jeonbuk until August 12
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The 2023 Saemangeum 25th World Scout Jamboree is scheduled to be held as planned from August 1 to 12 next year, for 12 days, at the Saemangeum reclamation site in Buan-gun, Jeonbuk.
According to the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree Organizing Committee (Co-Chairpersons: Jung Young-ae, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, and Kim Yoon-duk, Member of the National Assembly) on the 12th, the World Organization of the Scout Movement decided at the board meeting held for three days from March 31 to April 2 to hold the World Jamboree as originally planned in August 2023.
Accordingly, the organizing committee plans to hold a Pre-Jamboree (scheduled for August 2?7 this year) and use this opportunity to inspect the camping site environment and facilities to accelerate preparations for the World Jamboree.
Additionally, with the World Jamboree schedule confirmed, the organizing committee will proceed smoothly with the construction of Jamboree infrastructure and camping sites, development of experience and adventure activities, as well as exhibition and performance programs.
Furthermore, to enable youth from around the world to participate in the event, a government-wide promotional campaign will be conducted through government-owned online and offline media and overseas diplomatic missions, and domestic youth participation will be encouraged through cooperation with metropolitan and provincial offices of education and schools, fostering both domestic and international promotion and a festive atmosphere.
Moreover, the committee plans to operate social networking services (SNS) and publish newsletters, establish an extended virtual world (metaverse) platform where participants can experience the Jamboree virtually, and develop various products using the official character ‘Saebeomi’, as well as issue commemorative coins and stamps.
Choi Chang-haeng, Secretary General of the organizing committee, said, “With Korean cultural content gaining worldwide attention recently, interest in the World Jamboree is increasing, and it is expected that the largest number of youth participants ever will attend,” adding, “We will create a fun and safe Jamboree where the world’s youth can realize their dreams and hopes on the land of the future, Saemangeum.”
