CJ Co-Production 'Back to the Future' Wins Best Play at the Laurence Olivier Awards
'Moulin Rouge!' Featuring CJ Also Wins Best Costume Design Award
CJ ENM announced on the 11th that the musical "Back to the Future," in which it participated in production, won the Best New Musical award at this year's Laurence Olivier Awards in the UK. The Laurence Olivier Awards, hosted by the London Theatre Association since 1976, are the most prestigious awards for theater, musicals, and dance in the UK. Originally known as the West End Theatre Awards, the name was changed in 1984 to honor the famous British actor Laurence Olivier. A panel consisting of stage experts and audiences decides the winners. "Back to the Future" is a work that adapted the popular 1980s film of the same name to the stage. At this ceremony, it received the highest number of nominations (7) among new musicals and went on to win the top prize. CJ ENM's production "Moulin Rouge!" also performed well, winning the Best Costume Design award. This work previously won ten categories, including Best Play, at last year's Tony Awards, the American Broadway theater awards. CJ ENM has been recognized as a full member of the Broadway League, the first Korean company to do so, and has participated in Tony Award judging since 2019.
