Gyeongnam Province Protects Youth from 'Gapjil' ... Changwon University Establishes Regular Liberal Arts Course
Labor Rights Protection Training, Hosted by the Creative Convergence Education Center, 50-60 Students Per Semester
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do Province is planning to include labor rights education for adolescent and young workers as a regular liberal arts course at universities to promote the protection of labor rights and interests.
Gyeongnam Province announced that labor rights education will be launched as a regular liberal arts course in the second semester of the 2022 academic year at Changwon University.
The lecture, organized by Changwon University's Creative Convergence Education Institute, will be conducted by on-campus professors or invited external lecturers, targeting 50 to 60 students.
The curriculum will cover topics such as ▲ labor and labor processes in capitalist society including power harassment and disadvantages ▲ discrimination against part-time and non-regular workers in the labor market ▲ understanding labor rights and labor unions ▲ understanding the Korean labor movement ▲ labor welfare and labor politics.
Gyeongnam Province has included the labor rights protection education project for adolescent and young workers in its four-year provincial plan and has been implementing it since 2021 to raise awareness of labor rights among university students in the province.
Last year, due to the impact of COVID-19, non-face-to-face educational videos were produced and distributed via Gyeongnam Province's official YouTube channel, Gyeongnam Official, as well as to 24 universities and related institutions within the province.
