Lee Byeongno, the Democratic Party of Korea’s preliminary candidate for Damyang County Governor, announced on the 8th a tourism pledge to achieve “10 million tourists” through a major shift in Damyang’s cultural tourism policy.
Candidate Lee stated, “Our Damyang is a beautiful region where people always want to stay, boasting natural wonders recognized worldwide such as Juknokwon, Metasequoia Road, and Gwanbangjerim, as well as various cultural assets like Myeonangjeong and Soswaewon, which are the roots of Korean humanities and literature.”
He continued, “Building on these abundant resources, we have achieved significant results such as establishing an ecological city foundation, attracting the Korea Garden Culture Center, hosting the World Bamboo Expo, and creating Metaprovance.”
However, he pointed out, “It is regrettable that these precious tourism resources have not received proper attention and the market remains at 5 million tourists.”
He promised, “We will establish and promote a differentiated tourism industry activation strategy utilizing natural, humanities, and garden resources that have comparative advantages over other regions.”
Candidate Lee expressed confidence, saying, “Through this, we will transform into Korea’s top ecological humanities garden city in the imminent ‘post-COVID-19 era’ and open the market for 10 million tourists.”
First, he revealed a plan to “actively utilize the early promotion of the National Korea Garden Culture Center, which was confirmed for attraction last year, as a new growth engine for Damyang tourism.”
He also promised to expand nighttime tourism programs as part of a stay-type tourism strategy, create a nature-friendly Chuwolsan tourism complex, renovate the Changpyeong Hanok district, and develop an ecological trail around Damyang Lake.
In particular, he emphasized, “By creating and supporting experiential garden pilot complexes, experiential bamboo industrial complexes, and experiential advanced horticulture complexes, we will make Damyang a hub of Korea’s 6th industry.”
Lee Byeongno said, “Damyang will become a place where family tourists from nearby metropolitan areas stay and enjoy Damyang’s hidden tastes and charms,” adding, “We will surely achieve a major transformation in the tourism industry so that tourism goes beyond simple sightseeing and enjoyment to become a pillar of the local industry.”
