Assemblyman Seo Samsuk Leads the Proposal of a Cooperative Law for Regional Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Development Projects
Establishing Grounds for Cooperation Projects and Performance Rewards Between Local Governments and Nonghyup, Suhyup, Chukhyeop, and Sanlimjoap
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Seo Sam-seok, a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea (Yeongam·Muan·Shinan), officially proposed the "Act on Promoting Cooperation for Regional Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Development Projects" on the 5th.
The bill allows heads of local governments to promote regional projects such as increasing income for farming, forestry, and fishing households and revitalizing the agricultural and fishing village economy in cooperation with private organizations including regional cooperatives, and establishes a legal basis for the payment of performance rewards.
It mandates that local governments establish a "Regional Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Development Project Deliberation Committee" as a body for reviewing and deciding on project implementation matters.
Additionally, to secure a financial foundation for stable project operation, the bill provides a legal basis for establishing a "Regional Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Development Project Fund."
Representative Seo Sam-seok stated, "To resolve the serious crisis facing Korean agriculture and fisheries, a life industry that has accompanied our nation and 5,000 years of history amid challenges such as local extinction, food self-sufficiency, and the climate crisis, I proposed this bill as a result of much deliberation as a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee," adding, "I will do my utmost to ensure the bill is passed swiftly to offer even a small hope to those in agriculture, fisheries, and livestock forestry."
