Candidate Park Hye-jeong Promises to Be a Provincial Assembly Member Who Cares for Residents' Lives and Education
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Park Hye-jung, a member of the Suncheon City Council who actively supported candidate Lee Jae-myung in the last presidential election, has announced her candidacy as a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea for Jeonnam Provincial Councilor in Seomyeon and Wangjo 1-dong in the upcoming June 1 local elections.
Preliminary candidate Park Hye-jung has been evaluated as having faithfully fulfilled her role in presenting various opinions and conveying the voices of citizens on numerous issues over the past four years as a proportional representative city councilor for the Democratic Party.
All six ordinances that candidate Park proposed as the main sponsor were passed.
These include ▲ Partial amendment of the Ordinance on Support for Out-of-School Youth in Suncheon, ▲ Ordinance on Support for the Attraction of the Medical School at Suncheon National University and Operation of the Promotion Committee, ▲ Full amendment of the Ordinance on Improvement and Support of the Educational Environment in Suncheon, ▲ Full amendment of the Ordinance on Animal Protection in Suncheon, ▲ Ordinance on Designation of a Day to Prevent Loss and Abandonment of Companion Animals in Suncheon, ▲ Ordinance on Promotion of the National Flag and Others in Suncheon, and ▲ Ordinance on Approval of Contingency Fund Expenditure in Suncheon.
Candidate Park took pride in stating that these ordinances were created through direct verification of each clause together with citizens during citizen meetings, making them highly meaningful.
Park said, “My main interest is education in Suncheon. Education is called a century-long plan and I believe it is like a compass that shows the future of the region,” adding, “I have decided to challenge myself as a provincial councilor who can play a greater role in improving residents’ educational environment and quality of life.”
Park Hye-jung explained her political background, saying, “I have been a university professor for 20 years, and after becoming interested in solving community issues such as apartment power line problems, I started serving the local community as an apartment building representative.”
As part of her regional development pledges, candidate Park stated that she will actively prepare measures to solve traffic problems in Wangjo 1-dong, where apartments are densely concentrated compared to education, medical, and shopping spaces, causing serious parking shortages and traffic congestion.
In particular, she expressed her determination to create a temporary public parking lot by utilizing vacant land without buildings around the Lake Park area and to resolve traffic congestion issues at the intersection in front of N.C Department Store, as well as the entrances and exits of Yeongmu Yedam and Daerim 1 and 2 apartments.
▲ Regarding school and education issues, she plans to actively prepare solutions. With the rapid increase in new apartment move-ins in the Seomyeon area, the number of students is also rising. Among the solutions, she intends to discuss the relocation of Woljeon Middle School, where student numbers are rapidly declining, with current students, parents, local residents, alumni, and the alumni association.
She further explained that graduates of Hwangjeon Elementary and Woldeung Elementary, who will face inconvenience due to the relocation, will be provided with smooth transportation to the newly established middle school located in Seomyeon, and Woljeon Middle School will be promoted to be used as a complex cultural space for local residents.
▲ As policies to improve residents’ quality of life, she plans to ensure government and provincial support for the promotion of the Seomyeon Northern Senior Welfare Center proceeds without setbacks, expand sports facilities at Gangcheong Riverside Park in Seomyeon, replace aging sports facilities, and expand exercise facilities (gateball courts, ground golf courses) for the leisure activities of the elderly, as well as create a complex cultural space for youth.
