[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee, announced on the 7th that he will prepare a 100-day roadmap for emergency response to COVID-19.
On the same day, Chairman Ahn said at the COVID-19 Emergency Response Special Committee meeting held at the Korea Financial Training Institute in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, "Based on discussions over the past three weeks, we plan to select key tasks to be intensively pursued during the first 100 days after the new government’s inauguration and present guidelines."
Chairman Ahn also stated, "We will discuss specific measures to realize a national responsibility system for vaccine adverse reactions and to secure sufficient treatments."
He continued, "Since COVID-19 vaccines were recently developed, there were limitations in clearly identifying causal relationships with adverse reactions in a short period," emphasizing, "We must restore public trust in the government by expanding broad and timely support for adverse reactions and vaccine safety research."
Chairman Ahn explained, "Starting next week, we plan to transparently disclose data to the public together with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and the National Health Insurance Service," adding, "We also reviewed necessary measures to reduce the risk of severe illness and death and to provide strong protection for vulnerable groups, such as outpatient face-to-face care centered on local clinics and strengthening emergency medical systems."
He added, "The national responsibility system for vaccine adverse reactions to be discussed today is a major campaign pledge and an important issue with high public demand for improvement," and said, "We will further examine matters related to vaccine adverse reaction compensation that can be disclosed and guided in detail to the public regarding the progress of damage compensation procedures."
