Police Agency and Chorokwoosan Children's Foundation Provide 200 Million KRW Support for Child Crime Victims Over One Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The National Police Agency announced on the 7th that since signing a business agreement with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation in April last year, it has supported 107 children with over 223 million KRW over the course of one year. By support category, domestic violence cases were the highest with 33 cases and 64.64 million KRW, followed by child abuse (31 cases, 59.16 million KRW) and sexual violence (24 cases, 59.90 million KRW).
Previously, on April 1 last year, the National Police Agency and the Foundation signed a business agreement focused on providing support to children from families affected by crime and victims of child abuse, including ▲emergency support (up to 3 million KRW, paid within 2 weeks) ▲medical, educational, and housing support. The procedure involved the police identifying eligible recipients and submitting support applications, which the Foundation then reviewed and approved for support.
In Gyeongnam, there was an elementary school-aged brother and sister living with their grandmother after suffering child abuse. The father who abused the siblings was incarcerated, and the mother was separated due to domestic violence. The police located the mother to have her care for the siblings, but learned that she was facing difficulties working due to a bicycle traffic accident. Accordingly, the police coordinated with the Foundation to provide the siblings with emergency living expenses of 3 million KRW.
