Park Beom-gye, when asked about 'Han Dong-hoon disposition,' says "Not a fair question"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Regarding the restoration of the Prosecutor General's authority over the 'Channel A case' and the disposition of Han Dong-hoon, Deputy Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute (Chief Prosecutor), Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye said it is "unfair."
On the 6th, Minister Park, while arriving at the Ministry of Justice Government Gwacheon Complex, responded to related questions from reporters by saying, "The Minister of Justice considers and reviews various factors, and does not do so by considering only a specific individual."
Minister Park emphasized, "The right to defense is important, but revealing the substantive truth is also important," adding, "Fairness lies in interpreting these harmoniously."
Earlier, Minister Park had been reviewing the restoration of the Prosecutor General's investigative authority, which had been excluded due to the recent Channel A case, but halted the process due to internal opposition within the Ministry of Justice.
In this process, Minister Park was also suspected of having communicated from the beginning with Lee Jeong-su, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, a high school junior, and of reviewing the restoration of investigative authority to prevent the dismissal of charges against Chief Prosecutor Han.
Meanwhile, it is known that Chief Prosecutor Lee was deliberating on approving the dismissal of charges against Chief Prosecutor Han after receiving a formal report from the Channel A case investigation team the day before. The investigation team, including the lead prosecutor, head prosecutor, and deputy chief prosecutor, all participated and explained for about an hour the reasons why Chief Prosecutor Han should be cleared of charges.
