Pregnant women registered as residents in Changwon City can receive a discount on meal costs at designated establishments by presenting their ID along with a maternal health handbook or pregnancy confirmation certificate.
At 509 designated restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and other establishments, a 10% discount on meal or purchase costs is offered for up to 8 people including the pregnant woman.
Designated establishments display a certification sticker at the entrance, and the list of businesses can be found on the Changwon tourism website.
The information is also available on promotional flyers and posters distributed at public health center maternal and child health offices, district office civil affairs departments, eup/myeon/dong offices, and local obstetrics and gynecology clinics.
By scanning the QR code inserted in the flyers with a mobile phone, customers can access information about stores where the discount applies.
The pregnant women discount restaurants initiative was promoted to overcome population decline caused by low birth rates and to foster a childbirth encouragement atmosphere.
A city official stated, “Even though the city does not provide financial support for the discount amount, business owners voluntarily participated and operate the program.”
