[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] It has been reported that the police are still guarding the residence that President Moon Jae-in sold last February.
According to Channel A on the 1st, the police are working in shifts every hour, 24 hours a day, controlling access to the area around the residence in Maegok-dong, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, where President Moon lived before taking office.
Regarding the reason for the continued security despite the residence being sold, the police reportedly responded, "We are still waiting for instructions from above..." according to Channel A. This means that the officers on duty are not fully aware that the residence has actually been sold.
Channel A also reported that a police official said, "Sometimes First Lady Kim Jung-sook came down to the residence, so we had no idea it was sold." Another officer stated that they have not received any reports of other outsiders entering the residence this year.
The police are expected to continue guarding the residence until they receive withdrawal instructions.
Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's real transaction price disclosure system on the 31st of last month, President Moon sold the Maegok-dong residence on February 17th for over 2.6 billion won. The registration transfer has not yet been completed, so the residence is still registered under President Moon's name, and the buyer has not been confirmed.
