Jeon Hae-cheol Delivers Keynote Speech on 'Future Government Development Directions Post-COVID-19' at World Government Summit
Over 4,000 Personnel from More than 80 Countries Attend
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 30th, Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, attended the 8th World Government Summit (WGS), where world leaders, high-level officials, and experts gathered to explore the "Shaping the Future of Government."
The World Government Summit is a high-level international event held annually in Dubai since 2013, initiated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. This year, over 4,000 participants from more than 80 countries attended. Minister Jeon was officially invited as a keynote speaker by the UAE government and delivered the keynote address as the first speaker at the plenary session on the second day of the summit.
In his keynote speech, Minister Jeon presented the "Future Government Development Directions after COVID-19," based on experiences and lessons learned from responding to the pandemic. He emphasized that during the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis, cooperation with private experts, stakeholders, and local governments played a crucial role. Furthermore, he stressed that to overcome new challenges and crises through creative innovation, future governments must focus on open innovation governments based on collaboration and participation, decentralization to strengthen autonomy at regional and local levels, and bold transitions to digital government.
In particular, he highlighted bold inclusive innovation for all to ensure no marginalized groups are left behind in the future, as well as solidarity and cooperation within the international community, concluding his speech to the attendees' resonance.
Following his speech, Minister Jeon held a meeting with Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in the public administration sector. At this meeting, they shared best practices in public safety innovation using advanced technologies and agreed to actively promote exchanges and cooperation in forensic science techniques and capacity building, as well as public official training.
Earlier, Minister Jeon met with Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy of the UAE, to discuss government innovation measures utilizing the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence. The UAE highly evaluated Korea's digital government capabilities and expressed hope for cooperation with Korea in government innovation based on digital government in the future.

Minister Jeon stated, "The UAE is a hub leading innovation and development in the Middle East based on advanced technology and an important partner for future cooperation. We will strengthen practical exchanges and cooperation in public administration fields such as digital government, government innovation, public safety cooperation, and forensic investigation."
