Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage refers to tangible and intangible agricultural resources that farmers have long formed by adapting to the environment, society, and customs in a particular region, which the nation designates as worthy of preservation and transmission.
Once designated as heritage, a project fund of 1.5 billion KRW for autonomous preservation and promotion is provided, along with eligibility to apply for the FAO Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS).
Since 2013, 16 sites have been designated, and Changwon Persimmon Agriculture was designated as the 17th Nationally Important Agricultural Heritage after three attempts from 2019 to 2021.
The city plans to promote the excellence of Changwon Persimmon and enhance the pride of local farmers by ▲enacting the Changwon Dokmoe Persimmon Preservation and Management Ordinance ▲holding the Changwon Persimmon Royal Brand Proclamation Ceremony ▲designating it as a Natural Monument ▲producing a Dokmoe Persimmon Agricultural Heritage video ▲developing packaging ▲and establishing Dokmoe Persimmon rural tourism infrastructure.
Changwon City intends to preserve Changwon Persimmon Agriculture and promote its quality excellence through preparations for ‘FAO Globally Important Agricultural Heritage designation’ and attracting the ‘World Persimmon Agriculture Expo.’
